Composites Testing Laboratory (CTL) is the oldest independent laboratory for advanced composite materials testing in the EU, having been established in 1998. It provides a range of testing services for space, aerospace, renewable energy, automotive and medical device sectors.
Through its work in the space sector, CTL has accumulated expertise in executing mechanical testing on composite structures which require the research and development of customised test fixtures and procedures for components of non-standard shapes.
The custom fixtures and programmes delivered by CTL have allowed the components, developed as part of a space application, to be structurally validated.
This know-how in the development of customised test fixtures and test procedures for space is now being applied to other sectors such as the advancement of UAV technology.
